General pediatric services include care related to your child’s health and wellness. Regular checkups with their pediatrician ensure your child is growing and developing as they should. When illnesses and injuries occur, your child’s pediatrician can take care of it quickly and effectively. By scheduling routine examinations at Village Pediatric Group, you are safeguarding your child’s future and giving yourself piece of mind.
Having blood work drawn is a scary proposition for many children, but laboratory testing has changed the way medical professionals diagnose illnesses and diseases. Diagnosing illnesses is more accurate and may happen in a timelier fashion with laboratory testing. This allows your doctor to plan effective treatment quickly, so your child experiences the least amount of discomfort possible.
There are plenty of reasons to get your child's ears pierced. For some, it's because their child requests it. For others, it's a part of their religious or cultural customs. Either way, it's important you choose a piercing establishment that's clean and sterile, and where the practitioners have certification. The providers at Village Pediatric Group in Tuckahoe, New York, offer ear piercing services, so parents can be sure that their child is in the best of hands.
Ear wax is a fact of life. Without ear wax, your child would have itchy ears and be at a higher risk for infections. Ear wax is a natural and necessary substance protecting your child’s ears. Normally, your child’s ears get rid of old wax naturally, but if they don’t, your pediatrician may need to assist in removing old and hardened ear wax.
Children are always in need of physicals. In the state of New York, schools require children to have a physical examination prior to starting at a new school and then yearly going forward. This examination is needed before your child can participate in any school activities like sports, as well.
A physical exam at Village Pediatric Group involves a comprehensive exam in which your child’s pediatrician evaluates them for illnesses or medical conditions to optimize their health.
Your child’s pediatrician may also complete hearing or vision tests and evaluate your child’s speech, fine motor, or gross motor skills. They can also address questions or concerns you may have about your child’s growth or physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
The OAE is used to find out how well your inner ear, or cochlea, works. It measures otoacoustic emissions, or OAEs. These are sounds given off by the inner ear when responding to a sound. There are hair cells in the inner ear that respond to sound by vibrating. The vibration produces a very quiet sound that echoes back into the middle ear. This sound is the OAE that is measured.
This test can also show if there is a blockage in your outer or middle ear. If there is a blockage, no sounds will be able to get through to the inner ear. This means that there will be no vibration or sounds that come back. A small earphone, or probe, will be placed in the ear. The probe puts sounds into the ear and measures the sounds that come back. The OAE test is often part of a newborn hearing screening program.

Children are particularly vulnerable to respiratory illnesses, because their immune systems haven’t fully developed. Respiratory care is a branch of medicine that focuses on treating diseases and viruses that attack the respiratory system — the nose, throat, and lungs. It includes treatment for respiratory illnesses and ongoing care for chronic diseases.
Around 25% of all pediatric primary care appointments are because of respiratory complaints. If ignored, a respiratory illness can develop into severe health issues as your child gets older. The providers at Village Pediatric Group provide respiratory care to patients.
Making sure your child has an updated immunization record helps protect them from infectious diseases that can, in some cases, be quite harmful. The team of board-certified pediatricians at Village Pediatric Group can initiate and update your child’s immunizations as needed and can answer any questions you might have about vaccines.
